PowerOn, a program of LGBT Tech, has selected Equality New York and NYC Pride & Power as a 2021 grantee for their LGBT Tech Grant. The program provides brand new technology to partner LGBTQ+ organizations in hope to build more connections for young people. During the global pandemic, we learned that connection is more important than ever. Technology helps minimize isolation and the negative impacts it has on our LGBTQI youth.

This technology grant will help provide further access to the LGBTQI Advocacy Institutes running through COVID. Technology will be distributed to students accepted to the Spring 2021 LGBTQI Advocacy Institute cohort. Technology includes computers, ipads, and tablets. This technology will allow us to reach students who would otherwise not be able to participate due to the lack of connection.

PowerOn is a first-of-a-kind program that distributes technology to homeless, isolated, and disadvantaged LGBTQ+ individuals across the country through their network of LGBTQ+ grantee organizations. PowerOn Partner Centers work at a national scale to distribute life-saving technology at the most impactful grassroots level, empowering individuals with the tools to take charge of their circumstance and tackle the digital divide head-on.

Equality New York (EQNY) and NYC Pride & Power provides the education and resources needed to help build the leadership of all LGBTQI New Yorkers. Our Advocacy Institutes provide the training needed to understand the theoretical and programmatic components of effective organizing, along with the tools needed to implement a successful campaign in local communities.
