FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, February 13, 2020

New York, NY: Equality New York (EQNY) has officially hired its first ever Executive Director, Amanda Babine. Babine most recently served as the Director of Policy & Programs at the New York Transgender Advocacy Group (NYTAG) and played a large role in EQNY & NYTAG’s 2019 TLGBQI Advocacy Day that brought over 250 advocates to Albany to fight for LGBTQI New Yorkers.

“We are excited to reach this stage, and are confident that Amanda will successfully lead EQNY into 2020 and beyond,” EQNY Board Member, Brian Esser said.

Since 2017, EQNY has been a volunteer run organization that has engaged and educated thousands of LGBTQI New Yorkers through targeted legislative and political education. It was founded by organizers who believed that a statewide group should serve organizations and individuals, strategize with them, and provide a trusted place for unified political and legislative action – something that was missing in New York State.

“Amanda has always been a doer. Right now New York State needs someone who gets things done and isn’t just talk. New York deserves a leader who can support the LGBTQI community in a way that leads to unity and true engagement,” EQNY Board Chair, Gabriel Blau said.

Babine will bring the capacity EQNY needs to build a truly inclusive coalition. With 2020 being a New York State election year, EQNY PAC, under Babine’s leadership, will endorse and mobilize on behalf of candidates willing to prioritize LGBTQI New Yorkers.

“I am honored to join EQNY and am looking forward to continuing to build deeper relationships with the LGBTQI community throughout New York State,” Amanda Babine said.

Equality New York (EQNY) is a state-wide advocacy organization working to advance equality and justice for LGBTQI New Yorkers and their families. Equality NY Fund is a non-profit organization that organizes and educates LGBTQI people, their allies, and their community and political leaders. Equality NY PAC is a political action committee dedicated to supporting candidates for public office in New York State who are committed to the civil rights and needs of the LGBTQI community.
